Razor clams are a large, flat species of clam found on flat sandy westcoast beaches from Alaska to California. They have fragile shells that are razor sharp. In BC they are found on the north side of Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and on the westcoast of Vancouver Island. There are many long exposed beaches along Washington, Oregon, and northern California that are also home to razor clams. The clams can be identified by their telltale holes in the sand which gives them away during a low tide. Razor clams can be dug with a shovel or using a razor clam gun. Razor clam fishing is a great family activity because it doesn’t require a big investment to get started. Razor clam digging is great exercise and a good opportunity for a walk on the beach.
Here are a bunch of Razor Clam digging videos from Youtube that show the techniques for catching razor clams. After all the videos you can find links to the regulations and how to find more information about razor clams.

Fishing Regulations for Razor Clams
Fishing seasons for razor clams are set by the State or in Canada by the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Open seasons may depend on clam stocks as well as concerns for shellfish pollution or paralytic shellfish poisoning. It is important for all razor clam hunters to check their local fishing regulations and understand all the details that relate to clam harvesting in the location where they intend to go.
